With only 5 ingredients, this watermelon mango smoothie makes a sweet, refreshing breakfast or a snack. Sweeten up your day AND get a veggie!
Summer may be coming to an end but be sure to save this recipe so you can savor the sweet vibes all year long.
We had some serious fun with watermelons this summer. The kids had a blast cutting them up (totally recommend these knives!) and we kept a dish in the fridge every week.
Once we discovered the amazing combination of watermelon and mango, we now have a huge bag of creatively cut chunks in the freezer.
Smoothies are an exceptional way to get in daily nutrition. And they are just fun. We love them midafternoon as a refreshing way to hold us over until dinner.
My hope is this recipe offers you a new idea and brings you joy as well ๐
Ingredients
- Watermelon— Fresh or frozen, either will do! It’s so hydrating for our bodies (made up of 92% water!) and fuses wonderfully in smoothies. I LOVE fresh watermelon here. But obviously, to enjoy year-round, you’re going to want to freeze chunks in a freezer bag.
- Frozen Mango– Mango in smoothies is ridiculously delicious. If you’re looking for a way to elevate your tastebuds, drop in some mango chunks. I buy frozen chunks at Aldi or Trader Joe’s. The kids eat it right out of the bag!
- Frozen Riced Cauliflower— Surprise! Earlier I shared 4 ways you can use Frozen riced cauliflower right now…and this is one of the ways! Not only are you adding in important vitamins (C, K) and minerals (potassium and magnesium), but you are adding undeniable creaminess—and it’s nearly flavorless! You’ll never know it’s there!
- Yogurt— We love peach, strawberry, or even blueberry here. I just squeeze in yogurt tube we have on hand for a quick solution. I will sometimes use Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla) for added protein. Use what you like!
- Milk– Added creaminess and nutrition for the kiddos but you can use almond milk, or even just water!
Equipment needed
Blender: I have used the magic bullet since college. It’s small but mighty when it comes to blending up a great consistency. I leave it on my countertop all the time and it’s so easy to clean so making a smoothie doesn’t feel like a chore.
I do have the Ninja (it’s awesome!!) that I’ll bust out every now and then… but that’s rare. Magic Bullet does it all.
Measuring Cups: I’m a silicone person through and through. Collapsible, colorful and safe with the kids is a must!
Straws: Nothing fancy here– My kids delight in plastic, bendy straws that remind them of fast food restaurants. Bonus if they are neon. We may not be helping the earth but we sure are slurping up our fruits and veggies and making cleanup a breeze. Two goals for this stage of life ๐
How to make this delicious drink
Gather your ingredients, layer them in blender.
I like to do the following:
- Milk
- Watermelon
- Mango
- Riced Cauliflower
- Yogurt
Twist on the magic bullet or power on the blender. Puree until until smooth and creamy.
Pour into cups and enjoy immediately.
Note: I can usually get 1 large smoothie or 2-3 kid size smoothies from this recipe
Tips/Tricks
- Add liquid in blender first— even just a splash of water to promotes a better consistency and easier blending
- The more frozen fruit, the thicker the smoothie will be (you can add more liquid if needed)
- Skip the milk and use more yogurt instead
- Other ideas to add in: Chia seeds, protein powder, and of course, freeze your spinach and crumble it in!
- No mango? See below for other fruits that blend well with watermelon
- Use Greek Yogurt and transform into a smoothie bowl
- You can store in fridge or 1-2 days but blend again prior to serving for best results
Is this healthy?
So many glorious health benefits in one smoothie! I mentioned some of the benefits of the ingredients above. And yes, it’s sweet but most of the sugar comes naturally from the fruit.
Remember, blending fruit does not make it any less healthy. You’re getting all the good just in a yummy, creamy form.
Looking for hydration and electrolytes? This would be great recovery option because watermelon helps decrease inflammation and sore muscles.
So, whether you’ve been out in the hot summer months or breaking sweat during a quick workout at home, these hydrates while replenishing electrolytes.
Pair it with a protein or drop some Greek yogurt into it for a true balanced snack.
Do Watermelon and Mango go together?
I once heard that melons should only go with other melons, but this drink is proof is that watermelon and mango belong together.
Other fruits that pair well with watermelon are:
- Strawberries
- Pineapple
- Banana
What’s my favorite thing about this combo?
These fruits aren’t typically found in our fruit bin during the week. Therefore, Watermelon Mango Smoothie is an easy way to supplement in unique nutrition and color!
Another Idea
Smoothies, like this one, are also great poured into a pouch for on the go. And less expensive than buying pouches with fruit and veggies.
We’ve had these reusable pouches for a couple years and love them. Freezer safe, dishwasher safe and a great size!
