Welcome to Brief and Balanced
Hey there! I’m Brittany.
I’m a pediatric nurse turned stay- at -home mom to two kiddos, a doodle, and a proud wife to my hardworking (and hungry) husband. I thrive off all things shortcuts and hacks. And I enjoy all things wellness.
I did not always have the most realistic view of what healthy meant until I started to serve others. Gone are those days of exercising twice a day (praise!). And I cannot exactly make my favorite protein shake for my family dinner every night.
In 2008, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Sport Science, I embarked on my professional career that changed how I viewed wellness. I learned that healthy looks different for everybody based on circumstances, resources, and mindset. It’s definitely not all salads and cardio. And it shouldn’t be complicated! I then pursued my nursing degree where I became passionate about empowering my patients and their families to take small, realistic steps each day that offer freedom, confidence, and fun.
And that passion burns even brighter today. As moms, we are bombarded with information. We are on mental and emotional overdrive. And staying home to raise my kids, I’ve felt that emotional exhaustion and overwhelm on a whole new level. Especially at mealtime.
But rather than giving into the chaos of mom life, I love to use it as opportunity to change my mindset.
My philosophy is simply to create something better by keeping things “brief and balanced.”
Wellness is not about living perfect. It’s about creating something better out of what you have right now. It’s more about what you add to the plate that makes the difference. When you learn to add in simple steps throughout your day that nourish your heart, mind, body and soul, you create better choices. And it’s those better choices that lead to optimal health.
When it comes to preparing meals, I’ve discovered true joy comes serving my family healthier meals, not the time spent in the kitchen or the amount of ingredients I use. In fact, when I take the stress out of cooking, I see the beauty in this job.
The idea of “brief and balanced” has been pivotal as I build a house of wellness for my family. Despite being short on time, low on sleep and having a full plate, I’m happier and healthier than I’ve been in my life.
Through my role of motherhood and experience from my professional life, I’m fully embracing what it means to live a well-balanced life. And I believe God has called me to help others do the same.
What you’ll find here
Most of my content revolves around recipes that are quick, easy (aka minimal cleanup) and nutritious. I prefer six ingredients or less and I run out the kitchen if I see the words “baking soda” in a recipe. And with little eyes watching, I’m keen on incorporating it all—fresh, frozen and canned. All foods fit here.
You will find information, ideas and tips for healthy living and empowering wellness— everything from breaking a sweat, staying motivated, self-care and healthier habits.
And, of course, I will share about motherhood. I’m a boy mom, girl mom and recurrent miscarriage survivor. I proudly wear my c-section scar as a reminder of this gift of being a mom. I share the grief, hope, triumph and the ordinary of everyday to help you through this crazy beautiful journey.
I’m on a mission to inspire moms to embrace the chaos. I’m fascinated by helping others learn about all the dimensions of wellness. And I fully believe Christ is at the heart of it all.
Even with full hands, you can achieve a fuller heart. Together we’ll find quick solutions to promote wellness and joy each day.
Thank you for being here.
Brittany
